Tempo Traveller on a Rajasthan highway approaching a sandstone fort city

Rajasthan 7-Day Road Trip Itinerary from Delhi

This Rajasthan 7-day itinerary from Delhi covers Jaipur, Pushkar and Jodhpur at a realistic pace. It avoids the common mistake of adding Udaipur and Jaisalmer to a single week, which creates back-to-back long drives and very little time inside the cities.

The route gives two nights each in Jaipur and Jodhpur, with Pushkar as a slower middle stop. Families can shorten individual sightseeing days without changing the entire plan.

Seven-day route summary

Day 1Delhi to Jaipur
Day 2Jaipur heritage circuit
Day 3Jaipur to Pushkar via Ajmer
Day 4Pushkar to Jodhpur
Day 5Jodhpur sightseeing
Day 6Jodhpur to Jaipur
Day 7Jaipur to Delhi

Day 1: Delhi to Jaipur

Start early and use the main Delhi–Jaipur corridor. Check in by afternoon, then keep the evening for a market walk or a light city viewpoint. Avoid scheduling a major fort immediately after the drive. See our Delhi to Jaipur road guide for detailed planning.

Day 2: Jaipur heritage circuit

Begin at the Amer–Jaigarh side before late-morning traffic, then return toward the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal area. Do not assume every ticket counter, closing day or evening show remains unchanged; verify current official timings.

Day 3: Jaipur to Pushkar via Ajmer

Leave after breakfast and stop in Ajmer if the group wishes to visit the shrine and can follow the area’s parking and entry arrangements. Continue to Pushkar, check in and use the evening for the lake and market area while respecting local religious rules.

Day 4: Pushkar to Jodhpur

Drive to Jodhpur and reach by afternoon. A short old-city walk or a rooftop view can be added, but keep the main fort for the next morning.

Day 5: Jodhpur sightseeing

Visit Mehrangarh Fort early and allow enough time for its museums and viewpoints. Continue to Jaswant Thada and one city market. Add Umaid Bhawan museum only if opening status and the group’s energy allow.

Day 6: Jodhpur to Jaipur

Return toward Jaipur and use the overnight stop to break the road journey. Travellers who prefer a different route can stay around Ajmer, but Delhi arrival on Day 7 should remain comfortable.

Day 7: Jaipur to Delhi

Leave after an early breakfast and keep time for highway work or NCR traffic. The final day should not include a distant monument detour.

Best time for this Rajasthan circuit

  • October to March: the most comfortable period for forts, markets and walking.
  • April to June: very hot; use early mornings, shaded breaks and sufficient water.
  • July to September: humid with occasional heavy rain, but some landscapes turn greener.
  • Festival and wedding dates: transport and hotels can sell out; book early and expect traffic diversions.

What this seven-day route does not include

Udaipur and Jaisalmer are deliberately excluded. Each adds a substantial driving leg and deserves more time. For a wider destination comparison, use our top tourist places in Rajasthan and Rajasthan travel guide.

Vehicle and luggage planning

A sedan or SUV works for a small family. A multi-family group can choose a Tempo Traveller hire from Delhi, while a larger group may consider a bus with planned city drop points. Keep luggage compact because old-city hotels may have limited access.

Frequently asked questions

Can Udaipur be added in seven days?

It can replace Jodhpur or Pushkar, but adding it on top creates long transfers. An eight- or nine-day plan is better for Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur together.

How many nights are needed in Jaipur?

Two nights supports one full heritage day. Three nights is better if you want slower markets, museums or a rest afternoon.

Is Rajasthan suitable for a summer road trip?

It is possible, but outdoor sightseeing should be concentrated in early mornings and evenings. Vehicles need effective air-conditioning, and the group should schedule hydration and shade breaks.
