Golden Triangle Monument Closed Days & Route Planner
Check Golden Triangle monument closed days before fixing Delhi, Agra and Jaipur hotel nights. The Taj Mahal’s Friday closure and Monday closures at Delhi’s Akshardham and National Museum can change the sightseeing order. Jaipur City Palace has its own calendar. This planner is a source-checked starting point, not live admission availability.

Check closures before fixing Delhi, Agra and Jaipur nights
Write the actual dates beside every sightseeing day before reserving tickets. “Day 2 in Agra” is not enough: it may be a Friday. Likewise, a Monday Delhi plan needs a different activity list if Akshardham or the National Museum is important.
First fix the least movable priorities, then hotel nights and intercity travel. Leave an optional visit that can drop out without harming the whole journey. This guide focuses on the Delhi–Agra–Jaipur sightseeing calendar; use the separate Taj Mahal ticket guide for visitor-category and gate questions.
A source-checked monument opening-day table
The table below separates a weekly closure from a special-date exception. Sources were reviewed on 18 October 2026. Check the official attraction page again for your visit date.
Do not apply a single “Delhi monuments closed on Monday” rule to the whole city. Different operators set different visiting arrangements. For Red Fort, museums within complexes and any attraction not listed here, confirm the particular site or gallery’s current notice rather than extrapolating from a nearby monument.
| Attraction | Normal calendar / planning consequence |
|---|---|
| Taj Mahal, Agra | Closed Friday; move the Taj visit to another weekday |
| Akshardham, Delhi | Closed Monday; schedule on Tuesday–Sunday |
| National Museum, Delhi | Closed Monday and specified holidays; recheck holiday notices |
| Agra Fort | District information lists all seven days; recheck temporary notices |
| City Palace Museum, Jaipur | Operator lists seven days, except Dhulandi; verify special dates |
Weekly closure versus a temporary notice
A normal opening day is not a guarantee of access during a security restriction, maintenance closure, special event or unusual weather. Museum sections and optional experiences can also keep different hours from the main complex.
Record the official source and recheck shortly before travel. Ask your planner what is included if a visit cannot operate and whether a replacement involves an additional ticket. Nobody should sell a general tour confirmation as advance permission to enter a restricted monument.
How your starting weekday changes the route order
For a Monday Delhi start, make outdoor city orientation or another verified-open attraction the flexible plan and move Akshardham/National Museum to an eligible day. For a Thursday arrival in Agra, a Friday-only Taj plan fails: add a Thursday visit if arrival allows, or retain Saturday before departure.
If Agra would fall entirely on Friday, compare reversing the Jaipur/Agra sequence or adding an Agra night. These are route options, not a promise that every hotel or transport change is available. For a Jaipur stay around Holi, check City Palace’s Dhulandi exception against the actual local festival calendar before fixing the visit.
What to do when a planned visit cannot go ahead
Agree the substitute in advance where possible. An Agra Fort visit can be considered on Friday subject to its current operation, but it is a different attraction and does not replace the Taj Mahal experience. A shorter day with rest may be better than an unnecessary detour.
Keep a record of tickets already bought, their change conditions and what a revised route does to hotel and vehicle costs. Tell the planner which attraction is essential and which is optional; this makes a correction more useful than simply filling the original time slot.
Recheck tickets, last entry and optional visits
Opening hours, last ticket sale and last entry are separate checks. Leave time for queues, security, walking and a meal rather than arriving near closing. Add hotel check-in and the next journey to the same plan so that a sightseeing correction does not create another missed connection.
Use the Golden Triangle tour outline to request a date-based route and the Taj Mahal ticket guide for the entry checklist. Ask for the final written day-by-day schedule with dates, confirmed inclusions and optional visits clearly marked.
Example: an Agra Friday problem
A Thursday-evening arrival, Friday sightseeing and Saturday departure can work only if the essential Taj visit remains on Saturday before the onward journey, with enough time for both. If Saturday departure is fixed too early, change the route or night allocation. Do not hide the conflict by listing the Taj as an optional Friday stop.
Traveller questions
Do all monuments in a city close on the same weekday?
No. Each attraction and sometimes each museum section has its own calendar. Check the named attraction rather than assuming a city-wide closure day.
How should I change the route if Agra falls on Friday?
Move the Taj visit to an eligible day, reverse the city sequence if practical or add an overnight. Do not sell a Friday Agra day as including ordinary Taj Mahal admission.
Can a museum closure change my Delhi sightseeing day?
Yes. For example, National Museum and Akshardham have Monday closures. Change the visit day or agree a genuinely suitable alternative before fixing tickets.
Are festival and security closures always predictable?
No. Some dates are published well ahead, while temporary restrictions can arise later. Recheck official notices before travel and keep a workable optional activity.
Should I buy tickets before confirming the visit date?
Confirm the intended date, opening calendar and ticket conditions first. Buying a ticket without checking the route can create avoidable change costs.
Does this planner show live admission availability?
No. It summarises official calendar information reviewed on the stated date. Actual admission, tickets, sections and temporary restrictions must be checked for your visit.
